چکیده
460 CMAJ, March 8, 2011, 183(4) © 2011 Canadian Medical Association or its licensors A28-year-old man presented with epigastric pain after alcohol intake. His physical examination was unremarkable. Abdominal radiography showed small, round, sclerotic opacities distributed symmetrically along the sacroiliac joints, pubic symphy sis, acetabulum of the pelvis and the femoral heads (Figure 1). These characteristic bony lesions suggested a diagnosis of osteopoikilosis. The differential diagnosis includes osteoblastic metastasis, mastocytosis and tuberous sclerosis. A normal complete blood count and normal test results for C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor, calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone, Bence Jones protein, tumour markers, and thyroid, renal and liver function, as well as a normal radionuclide bone scan, further supported the diagnosis of osteopoikilosis. Further radiologic examination showed similar lesions on the bones of his hands and around the glenoid of the scapula (Appendix 1, available at www .cmaj .ca /cgi /content /full /cmaj .082095 /DC1). Our patient remained symptom-free with no change to his sclerotic lesions after one year of follow-up.

Osteopoikilosis: Pain as a Presenting Symptom in Three Family Members
Osteopoikilosis is a rare asymptomatic sclerosing bony dysplasia of benign origin. It is usually found incidentally on radiological examinations. Familial occurrence indicates a genetic milieu with autosomal dominant pattern. Here, we present a case report of a young woman suffering from pelvic pain due to osteopoikilosis (OPK). The same disorder was later found in her son and daughter.

1 of 2 DESCRIPTION A previously well 13-year-old boy presented with a 3-month history of right-sided hip pain responding to simple analgesia. Physical examination and blood tests were unremarkable. A pelvic x-ray ( fi gure 1 ) revealed multiple sclerotic lesions in both femora, worse on the asymptomatic left side ( fi gure 2 ) with further lesions in the pelvis. Review of a previous x-ray taken...

Background: Osteopoikilosis (OPK) is a rare inherited condition of the bones, transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait characterized by numerous hyperostotic areas that tend to localize in periarticular osseous regions. It is usually asymptomatic and is often diagnosed incidentally during x-rays made by other reasons. We present a case of 34-year-old man suffering from polyarthralgia an...
متن کاملBenign incidental findings of osteopoikilosis on Tc-99m MDP bone SPECT/CT
Osteopoikilosis is a benign but rare condition characterized by bone islands throughout the osseous tissue, which could be easily confused with bone metastasis. We present a case of a 37-year-old man presented to orthopedic outpatient clinic with right hip pain for 2 weeks. There were multiple, small punctate lesions scattered throughout the skeleton on radiograph. Subsequent Tc-99m methylene d...
